A news report revealed former Vice-President Al Gore and his team hired a mercenary to rescue four American and British nationals during the Mumbai terror attacks on November 26 2009.
Mehul Vora, a martial arts practitioner who owns a disaster-management firm in India, was booked by Live Earth India Concert for its December 7 show. One of its organizers was Al Gore. The show was later canceled because of the Mumbai terror attacks. A four-member team from the Live Earth India Concert visited India before the show and were caught in the middle of the terror attacks on November 26, 2008.
The concert’s chief of security called Vora to make sure the four were safe and rescue them if possible. The four were distributed in different regions in Mumbai — one was in Andheri, two at The Marriott hotel in Juhu and the fourth person was near the Taj Mahal hotel.
When Vora rescued the first person, the police stopped him because Vora was fully armed and wore a bulletproof jacket. After he convinced them about his nature of work, the police released him. Vora was able to rescue others safely and guided them to the airport.
On Wednesday, Vora received a congratulatory message from Gore for rescuing and protecting four American and British civilians on November 26, 2008.
Some are calling this an illegal act for not enlisting the local Indian police but it was meant only for rescuing these individuals. It may ruffle some feathers in Indian government, but it didn’t cause any further harm.
